World War II Marine base and future site of the UC Santa Barbara campus: Goleta Slough

Description

A view looking west from near the current site of the East Entrance to the campus. This area looks fairly similar today, despite plans in the past to turn the coastal wetland into a recreational lake with a harbor, and other plans to infill the area with earth and extend highway 217 all along the edge of the mesa, out to Storke road. This location is now known as the Goleta Slough State Marine Conservation Area.
