Smith and Williams: Goodrich house (San Marino, Calif.)
Description
Interior screens separate the functions in the open plan living zone of the Goodrich house and yet still keep the volume spacious.
For the Calvin Goodrich house, Whitney Smith designed a "petal" roof: four identical gables, floating above triangular clerestories and supported by posts at the four corners. Smith possibly borrowed the idea of the "petal" roof from his mentor Harwell Harris.
